Karuselli

Yrjö Kukkapuro’s enduring favourite Karuselli is now in our collection!

Karuselli is Yrjö Kukkapuro’s best-known work. Kukkapuro worked on the Karuselli lounge chair for years, searching for its perfect form and the right proportions. He wrapped himself in chicken wire and made a plaster cast of his body to make the chair as ergonomic as possible. Karuselli was launched in 1964.

The fibreglass frame follows the shape of the body, and it also swivels and rocks. Karuselli got its name from the exclamation of Yrjö Kukkapuro’s young daughter when she sat in the chair for the first time: “This is like a carousel!”.
